My Speed Typing Journey: Am I Getting Fast?
Hello everyone. Today I want to share you my journey towards speed typing.
SPEED TYPING?
Speed typing defined as typing of words in the computer using the keyboard measured in minute. By average, a person types 38 and 40 words per minute (WPM) which is actually into between 190 and 200 characters per minute (CPM). On the other hand, professional typists type a lot faster — on average between 65 and 75 WPM (Livechatinc, 2019). And to tell you, it is said that the average typing speed for boys is 44 wpm while 37 wpm for girls (Ratatype, 2019).
The highest speed ever recorded is done by Stella Pajunas in 1946 after having 216 words per minute (wpm) using an IBM electric typewriter. Currently, Barbara Blackburn in 2005, the fastest English language typist reached a peak typing speed of 212 wpm during a test using a Dvorak simplified keyboard (Ratatype, 2019).
Well, honestly speaking enough, my speed is really slower as expected compared to the stated records above and the said average. Last September 09, 2019, we are given the opportunity to learn and practice our speed typing skill in our class. Then I tried some websites that let you practice and measure your speed.
At first, my speed is really slower but along the way it is getting faster and faster.
In my first trial, I got 33 wpm and accuracy rate of 84.1%.
Second trial, I got 34 wpm and accuracy of 84.1%.
Third and last trial, I got 36 wpm and accuracy of 87.7%.
You can see my progression above. You can see how fast I am in typing. I started from 33 wpm and then reached 36 wpm.
The thing I have learned in the speed typing test is the repetition. Repetition makes your typing easier as your sense (in the hand) memorize the letter placement without you knowing it. Practice and practice, repeat and repeat, and continue having the goal.
Yes, my journey in speed typing is getting faster and faster as long as I do and keep working. There is a change in my speed which is good enough. I am little far from the average. My goal is to reach the average and if I can, exceed it.
